Duke of Edinburgh walk.....???

I'm going on Duck of Edinburgh, for 4 days with my school. I've brought suede walking boots.. is this good? because you say in a tent and walk in Wales over a 4 day period.. Are they waterproof? and any overall trips for going of DofE? :-)
