Copyrighting & Publishing a Book?

I am writing a young adult science fiction novel. I have read through the process of contacting a literary agency and then the publishing companies, so my query is: Do I have to get my book copyrighted first? I mean, not to sound cynical, but how do I know an agent or publisher won't reject my book only to take my idea and give it to someone else?
